Susquehanna Women's Volleyball Goes 1-1 on Final Day of Landmark Conference Championships

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Susquehanna University's freshman outside hitter Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) recorded a team-high 19 total kills in two matches, as Susquehanna defeated The Catholic University of America (24-14 overall), 3-0, before losing to host and nationally ranked No. 2 Juniata College (31-3 overall), 3-0, in the Landmark Conference women's volleyball championships at Memorial Gymnasium on Nov. 7.

Carson notched a match-high 14 kills against Catholic and added five more against Juniata. She also led Susquehanna (25-12 overall) with three service aces on the day.

SU defeated Catholic, 25-16, 25-18, 25-17, in the semifinals but lost to Juniata in the finals, 25-21, 27-25, 25-12.

SU's sophomore setter Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) tallied a team-high 59 total assists, including a match-high 40 in the win over the Cardinals.

Freshman libero Kelly O'Brien (Mastic, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) posted 36 total digs--21 against Catholic and 15 versus Juniata--both match-highs.

Senior middle hitter Madeline Hals (Morristown, N.J./Morristown) led the Crusaders with three total blocks.

Juniata claims its third Landmark Conference championship, while Susquehanna finishes second in back-to-back seasons. Juniata defeated Goucher College (17-12 overall) in the semifinals to advance to the championship match.

End of season
