First Half Goals Give Women's Soccer Mayor's Cup Title

Alyssa Bolger and Geena Ragozine each scored goals in the first half for the Susquehanna University Women's Soccer team and the River Hawks delivered a 2-1 victory over SUNY Oneonta Sunday and won the Mayor's Cup Tournament with a 2-0 record in Oneonta.

Bolger opened the scoring for Susquehanna (4-0-1) with a header off a free-kick sent into the box by Emily Lefkowitz as the River Hawks took a 1-0 lead just three minutes into the game.

Oneonta (0-3-1) answered 20 minutes later with a header off a corner kick to tie the game but Ragozine gave Susquehanna the lead for good with five minutes left in the half.

Ragozine finished a play started by the quick thinking of Kathryn Perlowitz as she intercepted a clearing attempt to start the transition back to offense. Perlowitz sent a pass to the top of the box but the defensive challenge forced the ball back out to Perlowitz near the edge of the box.

She then sent a pass toward the keeper and Ragozine finished the play for the go-ahead goal.

"We had another team effort today," said Head Coach Nick Hoover. "Everyone contributed and the defense was excellent. We look to keep the shots limited to outside the box and we did that for the most part today. We played good defense and took advantage of the opportunities we had on offense."

Julia Hutsko, who scored the overtime game-winning goal against Hartwick Saturday, was named the Mayor's Cup Offenscve MVP. SHe was joined on the All-Tournament team by Lefkowitz, Bolger, Katie Beluch and goalie Julia Tolin.

Tolin made seven saves and improved to 4-0-1 on the season.

The River Hawks return to action at 4 p.m. Wednesday with a home game against King's on Sassafras Field.
