SELINSGROVE, Pa. – A pair of swimmers were named the Super Crusaders for the week ending Jan. 16 as Devin Lessard (Chestertown, Md./Queen Anne’s County) and Joe Scheno (Berwick, Pa./Central Columbia) picked up their first honors of the season.
Lessard and the Crusaders swept both meets last weekend with a 112-86 win at Messiah, followed by a 108-84 home victory against Marywood.
Against Messiah, Lessard grabbed two first-place finishes with the first coming in the 400 IM as her time of 4:51.64 was more than 16 seconds ahead of the second-place finisher. Lessard also won the 500 free with her time of 5:29.17. The next day, Lessard picked up first-place points in the 1,000 free with a time of 10:55.29 and in the 200 butterfly (2:15.60).
Meanwhile, Scheno and the men’s team also grabbed two wins with a 121-66 win at Messiah and 110-61 victory against Marywood.
Scheno, who was named the Landmark Conference Male Swimmer of the Week on Monday, swam to two first-place finishes and one first-place showing in relay action against Messiah. His time of 1:53.45 in the 200 free placed him first, as did his time of 56.92 in the 100 backstroke. In addition, the 400 medley relay team won the event by nearly 10 seconds (3:44.34). The following day, Scheno captured the 200 backstroke (2:02.73) and was on the winning 200 medley relay team (1:44.02).
Both the men and women are back in action on Friday, Jan. 21 with a 6:30 p.m. meet at Landmark Conference opponent Drew.
