Murray, Butkus Named SU Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders

SELINSGROVE, Pa.- Football and women’s swimming & diving are represented as the Susquehanna Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders for the period ending Nov. 2. Senior strong safety Ian Murray (Tyrone, Pa./Tyrone) and freshman swimmer Joann Butkus (Barnesville,Pa./Tamaqua Area) have been selected for the award.

Murray recorded eight tackles, including seven solo, one sack, three tackles for loss, one forced fumble and one pass breakup in Saturday’s 13-8 loss to Franklin & Marshall. In eight games, he has accumulated 58 tackles (39 solo), a team-high two interceptions, 7.5 tackles for loss, three pass breakups, three passes defended and one forced fumble.

Butkus helped lead the Crusaders to their first dual meet win of the season as SU dispatched Landmark foe Elizabethtown, 157-99. The freshman claimed individual victories in the 100 breast (1:09.91) and 100 free (57.34) after joining Erin McElwee (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area), Ashlee Weingarten (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) and Jessica Jozefiak (Doylestown, Pa./Central Bucks East) for a win in the 200 medley relay (1:54.01).

Murray and the football team hit the road for a Centennial Conference game at McDaniel on Saturday, Nov. 8 at 1 p.m. Butkus and the women’s swimming & diving squad next compete at Catholic on Nov. 9 for a 2 p.m. conference dual meet.
