TOWSON, Md. – Susquehanna senior women's swimmer Kelsey Lessard has been named the 2015-16 Landmark Conference Women's Swimming Senior Scholar-Athlete.
Lessard is SU's first women's swimmer to earn the honor.
"Division III athletics is about being a student-athlete," said head coach Jerry Foley. "Kelsey has always been a dedicated student who also had to overcome injuries that forced her to change the way she trains and the events she competes in order to finish her career in an outstanding way. This is an honor that is well deserved for her efforts both in the pool and in the classroom."
A four-year member of the team, Lessard is a strategic communications-public relations major with a double minor in political science and environmental studies. She has been a member of the Susquehanna Dean's List as well as the Landmark Conference Academic Honor Roll for every semester in which she has been eligible. Lessard is a member of Alpha Delta Pi and a member of two honors societies: Alpha Lambda Delta and Lambda Pi Eta. She plans on attending law school upon graduation.
Athletically, Lessard was the Landmark Conference Rookie of the year in 2012-13 and Swimmer of the Year in 2015-16. As a junior she achieved Academic All-American Status and swam a NCAA B-Cut. This season she swam three NCAA B-Cut times in three first-place finishes at the Landmark Conference Championships.
In the past four years she has helped her team to four Landmark Conference titles and has achieved 12 First-Team All-Conference awards and three Second-Team awards. Lessard holds the Susquehanna record in the 200 IM, is second in the 200 butterfly and 400 IM and is third in the 200 breaststroke. Overall, she holds top-10 times in eight events in SU history and was the team captain her senior year (2015-16).
