Weingarten Takes Three First-Place Finishes to Pace Women's Swimming

Senior Ashlee Weingarten helped the Susquehanna University women's swimming and diving team win a pair of relays and also posted a first-place finish in the 200-yard Individual Medley but the River Hawks dropped a road meet at Division II Bloomsburg Friday night by a final score of 115-87 at the Nelson Field House Pool in Bloomsburg.

Weingarten swam a strong butterfly leg in the meet-opening 400-yard Medley Relay as Susquehanna (3-3) came from behind to win the race with a time of 4:04.02. Weingarten teamed with Erin McElwee, Joann Butkus and Katie Willis for the win. The senior made up more than a full second in her leg of the relay with a time of 27.38. Willis finished with a 25.28 freestyle leg for the victory.

Weingarten added a first place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:17.47 and then teamed with Willis, Jessica Jozefiak and Butkus to score first place points in the final race of the night - the 400-yard free relay. The team finished with a 1:41.34 less than a second behind the top Bloomsburg entry that was listed as exhibition for the finale.

The River Hawks captured four second place finishes as Lindsey Vankirk took second in the 1000 free, Butkus was second in the 50 free by just .05, McElwee was second in the 100 back and Megan Shaffer was second in the 500 free. Willis was third in the 200 free and Caitlin Kelly was third in the 100 free.

The River Hawks return home and host Goucher Saturday with a 2 p.m. meet in the James W. Garrett Sports Center.
