Tennis Drops Both Matches to Catholic
Men's Results
WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Susquehanna men’s and
women’s tennis teams traveled to Catholic for their final
conference match of the regular season. Both squads suffered
losses, however, as the women fell 5-4 and the men suffered a 9-0
loss.
The women (9-5, 2-5) were narrowly edged 5-4 after winning three
singles matches but just one doubles match. The Crusaders opened
play with three-straight singles wins. Julia Lerner
(Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) led off with a 6-0, 6-4
victory over Marjorie Selinger. Jessica Klinger
(Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) followed with a 6-4, 6-3
victory and Abby Hess (Hughesville,
Pa./Hughesville) took down Elaina Sceusa 6-3,k 6-4.
Unfortunately the Cardinals took the final three singles matches.
Ellen Pullsinelle (Lyndhurst, N.J./Immaculate
Conception) fell in three sets (4-6, 6-1, 4-6) while
Kim Rogers (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville) (4-6,
4-6) and Whitney Arcaro (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton
Area) (3-6, 0-6) lost in straight sets.
Catholic’s women clinched the win with two doubles victories.
Lerner and Klinger sufferd a 9-7 loss before Hess and Rogers
captured an 8-5 win in the second flight. Pullsinelle and Arcaro
dropped the day’s final doubles match 8-3.
The men’s team (8-7, 2-6) fell 9-0. The Crusaders dropped all
but one singles match in straight sets. Grant
Uber (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) took his
sixth-flight contest to three sets before ultimately falling 6-2,
6-7, 7-10.
In doubles action, Michael Hickey (Yarmouth,
Maine/Yarmouth) and Mats Haaland (Brunswick,
Maine/Brunswick) fell 8-3 while Jeremy Neville
(Wellesley, Mass./Wellesley Senior HS) and Alec
Green (Media Pa./Strath Haven) (8-2) and Bruce
Osborn (Sayre, Pa./Sayre Area) and Uber fell 8-6 in the
second and third doubles matches, respectively.
