BETHLEHEM, Pa. – The Susquehanna men’s and
women’s tennis teams split their Landmark Conference matches
at Moravian with the men falling 6-3 and the women picking up a
critical conference win with a 6-3 victory.
The women improved to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in league play. The
Crusaders won four of six singles matches as Shelby
O’Riley (Ware, Mass./Quabbin Regional) won 6-0, 6-3
and Jessica Klinger (Hummelstown, Pa./Hershey) won
6-3, 6-4. Abby Hess (Hughesville, Pa./Hughesville)
followed that with a 6-3, 6-1 victory at fourth singles and
Brielle Ferlauto (Neshanic Station,
N.J./Somerville) picked up the fourth win in singles
action with a 6-4, 6-2 decision.
SU went on to take two of three doubles matches. Moravian won at
first doubles before Klinger and Julia
Lerner (Arlington, Va./Washington-Lee) defeated
Carly Agrifolio and Erica Venuti 8-6. Ferlauto and Ellen
Pulsinelle (Lyndhurst, N.J./Immaculate Conception) then
defeated their opponents 6-4, 6-2.
The men (3-9, 2-2) were swept in singles competition although
Matthew Quadrini [Escondido, Calif./Brunswick
(Maine)] and Kirill Tumanov (Yaroslavl,
Russia/Municipal School #37) dropped three-set
matches.
The Crusaders took two of three doubles sets as Alec Green
(Media, Pa./Strath Haven) and Grant Uber
(Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) took down their opponents
8-2 and Quadrini and Tumanov won 9-8 (7-4).
Both teams return to action on April 11 with a 4 p.m. match at
Juniata.
