Women’s Tennis Headed to Conference Championship


SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Susquehanna's women's tennis squad is headed to the Landmark Conference Championship match after narrowly defeating reigning champ Moravian 5-4 Tuesday afternoon at West Branch Tennis Club.

The Crusaders (10-5, 5-2) will now host Scranton on Saturday, April 28 at a time to be determined.

In singles action, junior Abby Hess (Hughesville, Pa. / Hughesville) won at the fourth spot 6-3, 6-2. Classmate Ellen Pulsinelle (Lyndhurst, N.J. / Immaculate Conception) was victorious at number five 6-3, 6-4. Rounding out the singles wins was freshman Brielle Ferlauto (Neshanic Station, N.J. / Somerville) at number six, who won 6-4, 6-1.

The combination of Hess and Shelby O'Riley (Ware, Mass. / Quabbin Regional) won at number one doubles 9-7. Pulsinelle and Ferlauto won at number three 8-6.

For Susquehanna, this marks the first time in the Landmark Conference championship. This is the first time since 1994 that Moravian won't play in a conference championship match. For Scranton, this is the second straight year they have reached the title match and third time in five seasons.
