Track & Field Solid at Crusader Classic

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Despite a short week to prepare for the
2012 Crusader Classic, the Susquehanna men’s and
women’s track & field teams put together an impressive
showing on Friday evening.
To start things off in the field events for the men,
Ken Schetroma (Elysburg,
Pa./Southern Columbia) took home second
in the weight throw with a toss of 14.17m. He then went on to a
second-place finish in the shot put with a career-best throw of
15.23m.
Brian Etz (Cortland, N.Y./Cortland) and
Chad Shultz (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) placed
fifth and sixth, respectively, in the long jump with distances of
5.94m and 5.91m. Etz also went on to place fourth in the 60 meter
hurdles (9.34) with a personal-best performance.
Earning another second-place finish for the Crusaders was
Andrew Torok (Voorhees, N.J./Eastern Regional),
whose mark of 3.95m in the pole vault marked the second-best
performance of the evening in the event and tied his
career-best.
SU’s 4 x 200 meter relay team, comprised of Weston
Pesillo (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area), Todge
Aumiller (Lewistown, Pa./Indian Valley), Michael
Terwilliger (Honesdale, Pa./Honesdale) and Kevin
Craig (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North), finished fourth
with a time of 1:36.80, just two seconds shy of the top time.
Dan Reinhart (Manakin Sabot, Va./Lenox Memorial)
recorded the team’s best time in the one-mile run, finishing
in 4:41.03, five seconds short of a PR.
In the 400 meter dash, Chance King (Newburgh, N.Y./Newburgh
Free Academy) posted a personal-best time of 52.22, which
also marked the second-fastest time of the evening. Just behind him
was teammate Ben Wilson (Hughesville,
Pa./Hughesville), who finished in 52.99.
Robby Caulfield (Setauket, N.,Y./Ward Melville)
ran the 800 meter run in 2:03.99 which marked yet another
second-place finish for SU while Dan Martin came in fifth in the
3000 meter (9:22.89), setting a PR in the process.
The 4 x 800 meter relay team closed out the men’s action by
finishing second with a combined time of 8:24.02 from Caulfield,
Austin Iovoli (Victor, N.Y./Victor),
Brendon Albaugh (Ewing, N.J./The Peddie School)
and Joe Zamadics (West Chester, Pa./West Chester
Area).
Jess Ranck (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg Area) opened
the women’s performances with a first-place effort in the
weight throw, easily winning with her personal-best toss of 12.68m.
She also took fifth in the shot put with a mark of 10.23m, setting
another PR in the process.
Kristin Stam (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) had
another solid day in what has already been a standout season,
placing second in the long jump (5.01m) while teammate
Jessica Palmer-Bacon (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro
Area) was fifth with her career-best mark of 4.90m.
Stam captured first in the triple jump (10.96m) with
Thanida Sermsuwan (Bridgewater,
N.J./Bridgewater-Raritan) third (10.04) and
Melanie Schramm (Cogan Station,
Pa./Williamsport Area) fourth (9.56m). Stam then went on
to place second in the 60 meter hurdles finals (9.98).
Julie Scales (Berkeley Heights, N.J./Governor
Livingston) racked up another first-place finish for
Susquehanna as her mark of 2.90m in the pole vault tied for the
best mark of the day, while also matching her PR.
Carly Bass (Flanders, N.J./Mount Olive) was
SU’s top finisher in the one-mile run, finishing in 5:54.97.
Two places behind her in sixth was Sarah Dickerson (York
Haven, Pa./Northeastern) (6:03.81).
Freshman Laura Alleva (Malvern, Pa./Great Valley)
won the 800 meter run with a time of 2:29.76. Just two seconds
behind her was Shannon Galvin (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks
South) (2:31.96) in second while Maggie Storch
(Troy, Pa./Troy Area) was third (2:32.69).
The 4 x 400 meter relay team of Karina Tefft (Portsmouth,
N.H./Phillips Exeter Academy), Kelsey Hermick
(Hallstead, Pa./Elk Lake), Jennifer Tims
(Campbell, N.Y./Campbell-Savona) and Alleva posted the
best time, finishing in 4:20.43.
The teams host their third home meet of the season on Sunday, Feb.
12 with the SU Invitational, set to start at 10 a.m.
