Weaver, Weidlich Named Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Women’s field and men’s basketball are represented as the Pepsi/SAAC Super Crusaders for the period ending Feb. 23 as junior Cam Weaver (Selinsgrove, Pa. / Selinsgrove Area) and freshman Steven Weidlich (Watchung, N.J. / Watchung Hills) have been recognized.

Weaver, who was named the Landmark Conference Female Indoor Field Athlete of the Week, set two records at Saturday’s SU Open. She won the shot put with a career-best throw of 12.45m to better her own school record. In addition, it is the best mark in the conference this season by three-plus feet.

Weaver took home third in the weight throw with a mark of 13.96m, the second-best mark in program history and also second-best in the conference this season.

Both the women’s and men’s track & field teams host the 2014 Landmark Conference Indoor Championships this Saturday, March 1, beginning at 11 a.m.

Weidlich, meanwhile, was named the Landmark Men’s Basketball Player of the Week after his career-high of 29 points at Merchant Marine on Feb. 22 (W, 87-77), helping the Crusaders clinch the No. 2 seed for the upcoming Landmark Conference Playoffs.

During the week, which included a buzzer-beating win over Juniata, Weidlich shot 56.0 percent from the field and 52.6 percent from behind the arc as SU clinched its first playoff berth since 2011-12.

Weidlich is second on the team in scoring with 360 points (15.0 ppg) and second in rebounds with 4.8 rpg. In the conference, Weidlich is second in three-pointers made, third in minutes played, ninth in scoring and 10th in steals.

Weidlich and No. 2 seed SU host No. 3 seed Catholic Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m.
