Women’s Track & Field Kicks Off 2016-17 Season

THE MAIN STORY: The Susquehanna women's track and field team opened its 2016-17 on Saturday by hosting the first-ever River Hawk Opener.

ON THE TRACK: In the 60m dash, Jasmine Mitchell's time of 7.99 placed her second overall. Carlye McQueen was sixth in the finals with her time of 8.38. McQueen set a PR in the prelim round with a time of 8.36 which is also tied for seventh in SU history.

Samantha Reed opened her collegiate career by placing fourth in the 200m dash with a time of 27.49 which marks the 10th-best time in program history. Hannah Perkins finished seventh after crossing the finish in 28.37, a PR for the senior. McQueen, Alexa Pietrini and Toni Alexander took the 10th through 12th spots with respective times of 29.09, 29.21 and 29.22.

In the 400m dash, Perkins placed fifth (1:04.15) with Pietrini in ninth (1:06.49) and Jill Batten was 10th in the 800m run (2:38.60).

Keirnan Dougherty's time of 5:51.92 in the mile was good for fifth and Amy Kaschak won the 3000m run after crossing the finish in 10:59.07.

IN THE THROWS: Tylinn Bitner set a personal best in the weight throw with a mark of 10.32m. It placed her seventh overall and marks the 10th-best throw in program history.

Monique LaTourette took 20th in the shot put with a throw of 8.92m.

THE JUMPERS: SU took fourth, seventh and 11th in the long jump. Freshman Micayla Lynd was fourth with a jump of 4.61m, followed by Marlena Ford in seventh (4.53m) and Maya Khana in 11th (4.44m).

Khana went on to capture second in the triple jump with her mark of 9.68m. Lynd was third (9.58m) and Sarah Rinaldi finished fifth (9.04m). Rinaldi also took home third in the high jump (1.48m).

UP NEXT: Susquehanna returns to action on Jan. 21 when the team hosts the Orange & Maroon Classic.
