Volleyball Falls Short Against Coast Guard, Bluffton

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Sunday was a long day for the Susquehanna women's volleyball team as the Crusaders played two matches on the final day of the Haverford Tournament, one of which went to five sets. Unfortunately SU dropped both matches – a 3-0 loss to Coast Guard and a tough, 3-2 loss to Bluffton to close out play.

Against Coast Guard, SU dropped 23-25, 20-25 and 21-25 decisions. In the match, Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) and Jessica Cornman-Homonoff (Brooklyn, Conn./Woodstock Academy) led SU with eight kills apiece while Carson also contributed eight digs. Leading the team in that category, however, was Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor), who had 11 digs to go along with a team-best 21 assists.

Newcomer Amanda Miles (New Cumberland, Pa./Cedar Cliff) had a team-high three service aces while adding 11 digs of her own against Coast Guard.

SU took the first two sets from Bluffton, 30-28 and 25-18, before dropping the final three sets by respective scores of 19-25, 21-25 and 11-15. Carson put together a double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. She was also busy on the net, adding one solo block and four block assists.

St. Angelo again led the team in assists with 32 while Miles posted a team-best 17 digs.
