Saturday Split for Volleyball

WASHINGTON, Pa. – For the second-straight Saturday the Susquehanna volleyball team split a pair of matches, this time falling to Pitt-Greensburg before downing LaRoche on the first day of the Washington and Jefferson Tournament.

SU (2-5) fell 3-0 (19-25, 23-25, 16-25) to Pitt-Greensburg before defeating LaRoche 3-1 (25-16, 20-25, 25-13, 25-16).

Against Pitt, Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) fell just one dig shy of a double-double as she racked up 18 kills and nine digs. She also chipped in three solo blocks. As she’s done all season, Shona St. Angelo (Manorville, N.Y./Eastport-South Manor) again led the team in assists with 27.

Against LaRoche, Carson added 15 more kills, bringing her total for the two matches to 33. She also had three digs and three block assists. St. Angelo finished with a team-best 10 assists and Jess Holm (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) contributed four block assists and six digs.

Kate Reese (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) has impressive performance from the service line, recording four aces in the win while Morgan Jackson (Baltimore, Md./Catonsville) had three of her own to complement a nine-dig effort.

The Crusaders finish play at the tournament on Sunday with a 1 p.m. match against Muskingum and a 3 p.m. contest against host Washington and Jefferson.
