Chicago Road Trip Comes to an End for SU Volleyball

CHICAGO, Ill. – The Crusader women's volleyball team wrapped-up play at the Gargoyle Classic, hosted by the University of Chicago, on Saturday. SU played four matches in two days but failed to come away with a win over the weekend.

On Friday, Susquehanna (3-12) fell 21-25, 16-25 and 11-25 to Millikin and dropped straight sets (16-25, 10-25, 12-25) to Elmhurst. Emily Carson combined for 13 kills in the two matches while also adding five assists against Elmhurst. She also chipped in two solo blocks and one assisted block against Millikin and had another solo stop and two block assists against Elmhurst. Freshman setter Julia Caruso had six digs against Millikin and four more against Elmhurst as she played five of six sets.

Saturday saw SU drop two more matches, again in straight sets. The Crusaders were defeated by Wartburg 10-25, 6-25 and 10-25 and lost 3-0 (18-25, 31-33, 18-25) to Benedictine.

No Susquehanna player had more than five kills against Wartburg although Caruso added eight assists and two digs. Against Benedictine, Carson picked up her first double-kill performance of the weekend with 13 go complement 21 digs and three block assists.

Jess Holm had an impressive six block assists in the match as the team tallied 19 in the match. Caruso, meanwhile, racked up an impressive 27 assists.

SU is back on the court next Saturday and Sunday as the Crusaders travel to Juniata for the first Landmark Conference round robin weekend of the season.
