Carson, Murphy Chosen as Super Crusaders

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Volleyball and men’s soccer are represented as junior outside/middle hitter Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J. / James Caldwell) and sophomore midfielder Andrew Murphy (Natick, Mass. / Natick) have been selected as the SAAC Super Crusaders of the week ending October 9.

Carson helped the volleyball squad go 4-0 in the sixth-annual Hampton Inn Crusader Classic by defeating King’s (Pa.), Elmira, PSU-Berks and Albright over the weekend.

Starting all four matches and 16 total sets, she recorded 43 kills, 32 digs, 12 block assists and four solo blocks en route to being named MVP of the tournament.

Thus far in 2011, Carson has appeared in all 75 sets and 22 matches for the Crusaders (9-13).

She leads the team in kills (243; 3.24 kps), attack percentage (.269), is second in blocks (52; 14 solo/38 assist), is third in digs (186; 2.48 dps) and is fourth in service aces (13).

On the pitch, Murphy helped lead the men’s soccer team to a 1-1 record while starting both matches.

He scored both goals in a 2-0 victory over Penn College, with both goals coming in a two-and-a-half minute span in the second half. Murphy recorded an assist in a 3-1 loss at Scranton.

In 2011, he has started all 11 games and leads the team with 21 points. He is tied for the team lead with four goals, two assists and 21 shots and has a team-high three game-winning goals.

Murphy and the Crusaders are 5-6, 1-2 with a 3-2 mark at Sassfrass Field.
