SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Susquehanna’s volleyball team celebrated Pink Night and Professor Appreciation Night with a 3-0 non-conference sweep of Marywood on Tuesday evening at Orlando W. Houts Gymnasium.
The Crusaders (16-15 overall) won convincingly in the first set 25-16. The Pacers (15-10 overall) fought hard in the second set but it wasn’t enough as SU prevailed with a tough 27-25 win. SU completed the sweep with a 25-19 victory in the last set.
SU was lead by junior outside hitter Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J. / James Caldwell) who finished with 16 kills, eight digs and four block assists.
Freshman setter Julia Caruso (Collegeville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley) recorded 20 assists and six digs. Junior setter Samantha Adler (Montville, N.J. / Montville Twp.) registered 12 assists on the night.
Senior Kate Reese (Wellsboro, Pa. / Wellsboro Area) finished with 18 digs for the Crusaders.
The Crusaders and the visiting Pacers both wore pink t-shirts throughout the contest in support for breast cancer awareness.
SU volleyball players also honored several faculty members for their support and influence while on campus.
The Crusaders are back in action tomorrow night as they host York (Pa.) in a non-conference match at 7:00 p.m. A pre-game ceremony will honor seniors Reese and Natalie Cicioni (Frackville, Pa. / North Schuylkill) for their contributions to the volleyball program during their four years.
