SELINSGROVE, Pa. --Earning the No. 2 overall seed in the Landmark Conference playoffs, Susquehanna's volleyball team is ready to take on Catholic on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 1:30 p.m.
The Crusaders (18-18, 5-1) played the Cardinals on Oct.16 and won 3-1 (18-25, 25-14, 25-21, 25-23). Four players had at least 10 kills for SU, led by 16 from Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J. / James Caldwell), who also had 26 digs and five block assists.
Joining Carson with double-digit kills were Hayley Dunkel (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) (12), Jess Holm (Montvale, N.J./Pascack Hills) (10) and Kaylee Monga (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls) (13).
Senior Kate Reese (Wellsboro, Pa./Wellsboro Area) led the defensive effort with 29 digs while Samantha Adler (Montville, N.J./Montville Twp.) added 23 and Dana Kreutzer (Flemington, N.J./Hunterdon Central Regional) chipped in 17. Adler also had a match-high 49 assists to complement her 23 digs.
As a team, SU racked up 22 blocks (19 assisted) to Catholic's six.
Carson has exactly 1,000 career kills, making her the seventh player in team history to reach that milestone. Reese has 1,158 career digs which ranks her eighth all-time and Susquehanna as a team is ranked 47th in the nation in blocks per set with 2.1.
Monga is fresh off an All-Tournament performance in the Birmingham Southern Classic on Oct. 28-29. She also ranks 46th in the nation in blocks per set with 1.05.
SU will look for a return trip to the LC championship game. Last year, the Crusaders fell to Juniata 3-0.
