Volleyball Splits In Season Opener at Haverford

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Susquehanna’s volleyball team opened up the 2012 season by splitting its matches against Frostburg State and Haverford. The Crusaders defeated the Bobcats 3-0 and fell to the Fords 3-0.

In the opening match against Frostburg State (28-26, 25-12, 25-13), senior Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J/  James Caldwell) had 10 kills, seven digs and two block assists. Jessica Holm (Montvale, N.J. / Pascack Hills) had nine kills with a .643 kill percentage and three digs.

In addition, Torrie Garner (James Creek, Pa./Huntingdon Area) had six kills and a .714 hitting percentage. In total, SU had seven blocks and 10 aces.

Sophomore Julia Caruso (Collegeville, Pa. / Perkiomen Valley) finished with 16 assists and freshman Morgan Whiteman (Camp Hill, Pa. / Trinity) had 11 assists for the Crusaders.

Against Haverford (13-25, 15-25, 24-26), Holm led the way with seven kills and Carson had six kills and six digs. Caruso finished with 11 assists and senior Dana Kreutzer (Flemington, N.J. / Hunterdon Central Regional) had 11 digs for SU.

The Crusaders (1-1) continue playing in the Haverford Tournament tomorrow with games at 12 and 2 p.m.
