Volleyball Wraps-Up Texas Trip

GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Susquehanna women's volleyball team concluded its trip to Texas with two more matches on Saturday. The Crusaders lost in five sets to Hardin-Simmons and fell 3-1 to Southwestern at the Southwestern Halloween Tournament.

SU (16-21) took its match against Hardin-Simmons (26-3), a 26-win team, to five sets but fell 16-25, 26-24, 25-23, 14-25, 12-15. Against the host Pirates (22-10), SU lost 25-22, 11-25, 12-25, 12-25.

Against Hardin-Simmons, Emily Carson (Caldwell, N.J./James Caldwell) had a team-high 10 kills, hit for a .314 attack percentage and added five digs and four block assists. Sarah Paluck (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua Area) led the team with her 23 digs while Morgan Whiteman (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) had a double-double with 40 assist and 12 digs while also chipping in two service aces and two block assists.

At the net, Kaylee Monga (Rockaway, N.J./Morris Knolls), Torrie Garner (James Creek, Pa./Huntingdon Area) and Carson combined for 15 of SU's 22 block assists with Monga accounting for six.

In the loss to Southwestern, Carson led the team with seven kills and registered 11 digs. Whiteman picked up 22 assists and five digs. Paluck recorded 15 digs and Kristin Shanabrook (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) had 11 digs.

The Crusaders return home on Wednesday to host Scranton at 7 p.m. in a Landmark Conference quarterfinal match.
