SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Make it five wins in a row for the Susquehanna women’s volleyball team as the Crusaders defeated visiting Wilkes 3-0 on Tuesday night to improve to 8-1 on the season.
SU (8-1) is off to best its best start since joining the Landmark Conference in 2007 and has won five-consecutive 3-0 decisions, including Tuesday night against the Colonels (1-5) with straight set victories of 25-18, 25-14 and 25-17.
The Crusaders hit for a very impressive .389 attack percentage as a team and saw six players record at least four kills in the match, led by nine from Kady Faller (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township), who also added five block assists. Maggie O’Hearn (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) picked up a double-double with 34 assists and 10 digs while Sarah Paluck (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua Area) finished with 14 digs of her own.
Hayley Dunkel (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) added six kills, two digs, one solo block and four block assists as SU racked up 17 total block assists on the night. Erin Byrne (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) finished her three-set night with seven kills, three assists, two service aces, three digs and one block assist.
The team returns to action this Friday when Susquehanna hosts the Old Friends Crossover Tournament. The Crusaders will face Elizabethtown at 6:30 p.m. followed by an 8:30 p.m. match against Messiah.
