TOWSON, Md. – The Susquehanna volleyball team earned four All-Conference players and two major awards following a season in which the Crusaders set the program record for most victories in a season.
SU (29-9) saw sophomore libero Sarah Paluck (Nesquehoning, Pa. / Tamaqua Area) named Specialist of the Year as well to the First Team. Freshman Erin Byrne (San Diego, Calif. / Scripps Ranch) was selected as the Rookie of the Year in addition to being named First Team as an outside hitter.
Junior middle hitter Hayley Dunkel (Pottsville, Pa. /Pottsville Area) was named to the First Team and freshman setter Maggie O’Hearn (Mountville, Pa. / Hempfield) earned Second-Team honors.
Paluck was second in the conference with 681 digs (5.28 per set) and recorded 43 service aces in 38 matches played. For her career, Paluck has 1,237 digs, already fifth most in SU history.
Byrne recorded the second-most kills in the Landmark with 403 (3.25 kps) to go along with 76 aces, 273 digs and 70 blocks (.56 per set). Byrne’s 403 kills are the ninth-most in single season history at Susquehanna while her 76 service aces are second most.
Dunkel ranked second in the Landmark with a .325 hitting percentage and averaged 2.16 kills per set while accumulating 102 total blocks in 38 matches. Dunkel currently ranks fourth in career block assists (259) and fifth in total blocks (300).
O’Hearn registered a league-high 1,259 assists (9.68 per set), which is the most in single season history for SU, while her 74 service aces are tied for third-most in a year.
The Crusaders made the conference playoffs for the sixth-consecutive season and advanced to the Landmark championship match for the fifth time under 11th-year head coach Kuuipo Tom, who earned his 200th career win earlier this season, which extends his mark of most wins in program history.
