SELINSGROVE, Pa. – The Susquehanna volleyball team could not have asked for a much better weekend, going a perfect 4-0 over the team's two-day Hampton Inn Crusader Classic. The weekend was capped off with a 3-1 victory over St. Vincent and a 3-0 win against Gettysburg on Saturday.
Maggie O'Hearn (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) was named the Tournament MVP and teammate Erin Byrne (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) was also named to the All-Tournament team.
SU (7-1) defeated St. Vincent 21-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-13 before sweeping the Bullets 25-20, 25-17, 25-22.
Against St. Vincent, O'Hearn amassed 28 assists to go along with 11 digs for a double-double. Byrne, meanwhile, racked up a triple-double with 12 kills, 13 assists and 11 digs. Hayley Dunkel (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) led all players with two solo blocks and three block assists while also chipping in five kills and two service aces. Sarah Paluck (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua Area) finished with 26 digs in her four sets of action.
The day concluded with a three-set win over Gettysburg. Byrne added nine more kills and 11 digs while O'Hearn recorded 30 assists, eight digs and two service aces. Dunkel added another three block assists and Paluck had 26 digs, bringing her total for the day to 52. SU ended the first set on a 5-0 run while in the third set, the Crusaders found themselves trailing 17-22 before shutting out the Bullets the rest of the way en route to the 25-22 win.
Susquehanna remains at home to host Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday, Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m.
