Volleyball Grabs Fifth-Straight Win

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – It only took three sets for the Susquehanna women's volleyball team to pick up its fifth-straight victory, defeating visiting Franklin & Marshall College 3-0 at home Wednesday night.

SU (8-1) made quick work of an F&M squad that was 6-1 entering the night's match. The Crusaders won by scores of 25-18 in all three sets.

Morgan Whiteman (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) had a match-best 11 kills and a .444 attack percentage while the team as a whole boasted a .317 attack percentage. Meanwhile, Maggie O'Hearn (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) tallied 33 assists, 11 digs and four kills and Sarah Paluck (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua Area) finished with 24 digs to lead the team while also adding two service aces.

In the first set, the Diplomats led 10-7 before the Crusaders rattled off five unanswered points for a 12-10 lead and never looked back en route to the 25-18 win.

SU never trailed in the second set and led by 10 (24-14) before Leanna Carvin (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton Area) closed out the set with a kill.

The third set started out as a back-and-forth battle and was tied at 12 before an Erin Byrne (San Diego, Calif./Scripps Ranch) kill put the Crusaders ahead for good. Byrne finished with seven kills, five digs, four assists, one solo block and one block assist.

Susquehanna next travels to the Lycoming Invitational on Sept. 12-13.
