Volleyball Hosts End of Season Awards Banquet

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – There was much to celebrate for the Susquehanna women's volleyball team, which recently held its postseason awards dinner to cap off a successful 2014 season.

The team finished with a program-record 30 wins and compiled a 59-18 record over the past two seasons. With another appearance in the Landmark Conference championship, the Crusaders have now reached the finals six times in the past seven years.

Five members of the squad were named All-Landmark Conference athletes with sophomore outside hitter Erin Byrne (San Digeo, Calif./Scripps Ranch) and junior libero Sarah Paluck (Nesquehoning, Pa./Tamaqua Area) named to the All-Landmark Conference First Team for the second consecutive season. Junior outside hitter Morgan Whiteman (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity), senior middle hitter Hayley Dunkel (Pottsville, Pa./Pottsville Area) and sophomore setter Maggie O'Hearn (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) also received Second-Team honors.

The team was also distinguished in the classroom with eight student-athletes earning a place on the conference's fall honor roll and Dunkel receiving additional recognition as a member of the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District Team.

Paluck received the team's Most Valuable Player award, playing 132 out of a possible 135 sets and finishing the season with 666 digs, 51 services and 49 assists. She will join Whiteman as a captain for the 2015 season.

Sophomore Marykate Sherkness Treskow, Pa./Marian Catholic) was named as the team's impact player with 224 kills, third-most on the team, and Dunkel received an award for her leadership.
