Volleyball Drops Two on the Road

The Susquehanna University volleyball team battled Mary Washington University and Hiram College on day two of Christopher Newport's Captain's Classic on Saturday. SU lost both matches.

In the first match, Susquehanna (3-3) lost to Mary Washington in four sets (19-25, 16-25, 25-22, 15-25).

Morgan Whiteman (Camp Hill, Pa./Trinity) led with 14 kills while Marykate Sherkness (Treskow, Pa./Marian Catholic) tallied 10 and Leana Carvin (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton Area) contributed seven. Sarah Paluck (Nesquehoning, Pa/Tamaqua Area) led the team in digs with 18 and Whiteman totaled 14. Maggie O'Hearn (Mountville, Pa./Hempfield) contributed 34 of the team's 37 assists in the match.

In the second match, SU played Hiram College and lost in five sets (18-25, 31-29, 25-17, 20-15, 8-15).

Hiram took the first set before the Crusaders rallied back to take the next two but could not hold on and lost the last two sets. Sherkness and Whiteman led the team in kills with 17 and 14, respectively. O'Hearn tallied 44 assists. Paluck led once again in digs with 17 and was closely followed by Whiteman who contributed 16 digs.

At the end of the Captain's Classic, Sarah Paluck was named to the all-tournament team.

The Crusaders return to action on Tuesday September 8 at Franklin and Marshall.
