Volleyball Falls at Home to Blue Jays

THE QUICK STORY: The Susquehanna women's volleyball team opened its home season on Wednesday night by welcoming Johns Hopkins University. Unfortunately, the Blue Jays came away with the 3-0 win over SU. All three sets were decided by eight points or fewer: 25-19, 26-24, 25-17.

THE RECORDS
: The River Hawks' record falls to an even 2-2 while Johns Hopkins is now 4-2.

OPENING SET: The set was tied at 13 before the Blue Jays went on an 8-3 run to go ahead 21-16 en route to the eventual 25-19 victory.

SET TWO THRILLER: The second set was a back-and-forth battle. The River Hawks led 15-10 on an Erin Byrne kill before Johns Hopkins pulled within one, 19-18. Leana Carvin's kill tied it at 24 before the Blue Jays closed out the set with back-to-back points.

DECISIVE SET: Johns Hopkins jumped out to a 7-3 lead before the River Hawks rebounded to grab a 10-8 edge. Neither team took more than a three-point lead before with the Blue Jays leading 17-14 late in the set. They held a 22-16 lead and gave up just one point the rest of the set.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE: Byrne led SU with eight kills while Marykate Sherkness added seven. Maggie O'Hearn added 24 assists and seven digs while Kasey Bost and Alyssa Chiodo had 11 and 12 digs, respectively.

FOR THE BLUE JAYS: Elizabeth Wuerstle had 10 kills and Sarah Elnozahy added 24 assists, foru digs and four block assists.

UP NEXT FOR SU: The River Hawks are back on the road to compete in the Union Invitational Sept. 9-10.
