QUICK HIT: The Susquehanna women's volleyball team lost a tough 3-0 (34-32, 27-25, 25-23) match against Clarkson in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon.
RECORDS: The River Hawks finish the season with an overall record of 31-8 while Clarkson improves to 22-14.
DID YOU KNOW? This marks the winningest season in program history as well as the first NCAA Tournament appearance for the program.
HOW IT HAPPENED: After trailing 6-3 in the first set, the River Hawks scored five unanswered points ending with a service ace by Corinne Eidle followed by a kill from Morgan Lowe to give SU its first lead of the set (9-7). A Clarkson kill tied the game at nine but Susquehanna answered with a 11-6 run to take a five-point lead (20-15).
At this point, Clarkson rallied to score seven unanswered points to reclaim the lead (23-21). A kill from Lowe tied the game at 24 to send the set into extra points and the set was tied six more times before a SU attacking error followed by a Clarkson kill ended the set in Clarkson's favor 34-32.
In the second set, Susquehanna took an early 4-0 lead on a pair of attacking errors and a pair of kills from Lowe and Erin Byrne. Clarkson fought back to take a two-point lead (7-5) but a kill from Byrne followed by a service ace from Kasey Bost tied the set at eight. From this point, the set was tied eight more times before a River Hawks' attacking error gave Clarkson a 23-22 lead. Both teams traded points back and forth but SU never regained the lead losing the second set 27-25.
The third set saw SU trailing 20-8 before the River Hawks went on a 14-2 run to tie the game at 22 on a Marykate Sherkness kill. Unfortunately, Susquehanna only scored one more point – a Clarkson service error – before dropping the third set 25-23.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE: Lowe led all players in kills with 23 while adding 11 digs for a double-double while Byrne totaled 13 kills and Sherkness contributed 11. Maggie O'Hearn tallied 43 assists while adding 16 digs for a double-double of her own. Alyssa Chiodo totaled 15 digs while Caroline Beohm had 10.
