Hannah Lyons recorded 25 kills including 14 in the first match of he day and Caroline Beohm added 42 digs in the two matches as the Susquehanna University Volleyball team completed a two-match sweep with wins over Marymount University and Messiah College Saturday afternoon in a non-conference tri-match at Messiah.
Susquehanna (13-8) beat Marymount (9-10) by a 3-1 score to start the day and capped the tri-match with a 3-0 win over Messiah (8-12). The River Hawks won the first two sets in the win over Marymount by scores of 25-23 and 25-21. Marymount rebounded to take the third set with a 25-20 win but Susquehanna closed out the match winning the fourth set with a 25-18 victory.
In the Messiah match, Susquehanna swept the three sets by scores of 25-15, 26-24 and 25-23.
"We had two good matches today," said Head Coach Kuuipo Tom. "Marymount was a very scrappy team and both teams made us work hard for the victories."
Against Marymount, Lyons led three players into double-digit kills as Sydney Portale had 10 kills and Morgan Lowe finished with 14 kills and 11 digs. Beohm added 22 digs on defense and served two aces and Kasey Bost also chipped in 11 digs. Julie Kreutzer had 27 assists while Helen Forman handed out 13 assists.
In the Messiah match, Lyons added another 11 kills and also registered seven blocks. Lowe had nine kills and 12 digs and Beohm was credited with 20 digs. Forman and Kreutzer combined for 29 assists while Lowe, Bost and Lizzie Herestofa had two aces each for the River Hawks.
Susquehanna will play at Penn St. Harrisburg Tuesday and return home for a midweek match against Arcadia Thursday night before returning to Landmark Conference play over the weekend against Elizabethtown and Moravian at Moravian.
