Volleyball Splits Final Day of the Regular Season

Hannah Lyons recorded 16 kills and three blocks to lead the Susquehanna University Volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Scranton University Saturday afternoon in a Landmark match in OW Houts Gymnasium in Selinsgrove. The River Hawks ended the day with a split after falling to Juniata by a 3-0 score to end the regular season.

With the victory over Susquehanna (21-11 Overall, 5-1 Landmark), Juniata (28-11, 5-1) won the conference regular season title due to the tie breaker procedure set by the conference. Scranton (34-4, 5-1) earned the second place seeding and the River Hawks finished third in the tie breakers. Juniata will host Moravian and Scranton will host Susquehanna in the semifinal matches Wednesday night and the winners will play Saturday, Nov. 4 for the conference title.

On Saturday against Scranton, Susquehanna won the first two sets by scores of 25-14 and 25-19 before the Royals rebounded to win the third set 25-18. The River Hawks finished the match with a 25-18 win in the fourth set.

Lyons led the offense whth her 16 kills while Sydney Portale finished with 13 kills and Morgan Lowe added 10. Caroline Beohm had 29 digs and Julie Kreutzer handed out 41 assists. Lizzie Herestofa led the team with three aces and also had nine digs.

In the loss to Juniata, the Eagles won by set scores of 25-14, 25-12 and 25-17.

Lyons had 11 kills, Kreutzer added 17 assists, Herestofa had a team-best nine digs and Beohm added eight digs for Susquehanna.

The River Hawks start the postseason Wednesday with the Landmark Tournament semifinal at 7 p.m. at Scranton.
