Hess Sets New SU Standard at NCAA Division III Championships
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Sophomore Casey Hess (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) set a new standard for Susquehanna University women's cross country by placing a program-best 55th out of 280 runners at the 2009 NCAA Division III championships with a 6,000-meter time of 23 minutes, 10.6 seconds at Highland Park Golf Course on Nov. 21.
Hess' time came on a slow course and was well under her personal-best 6,000 mark of 21:53.10, recorded at the 2009 Division III Mideast Region championships on Nov. 14.
Hess placed fifth at the regional meet to earn an automatic invitation to the national race.
A St. Lawrence University runner won the individual national title with a time of 21:28.0.
The national team champion was the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, which finished with a score of 171. Susquehanna did not register a team score.
