GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Saturday's Gettysburg Invitational marked the final meet before the Susquehanna men's and women's cross country teams compete at the Landmark Conference championships on Oct. 29. The men's team finished seventh while the women came in 13th with both teams battling muddy course conditions and gusty winds.
Highlighting the day's performances was senior Ian Quinlan's (Eagle View, Pa./Methacton/Lehigh) second-place finish in the 8k event with his time of 26:55.46, less than 10 seconds off the leader from Malone University. Earning a 19th overall finish was classmate Joe Zamadics (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East), who ran the course in 28:06.70.
Senior Justin Zarzaca (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) was the next Crusader across the finish with a time of 29:09.92. Rounding out the top-five runners for SU was freshmen Paul Crowe (Boalsburg, Pa./State College Area) (29:33.76) and senior Dan Martin (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) (29:39.19).
The men's field included 31 teams and 347 runners. SU was the fourth DIII school
For the women, who ran without three of their top 10 runners, junior Sarah Dickerson (York Haven, Pa./Northeastern HS) finished first with a time of 25:58.70 in the 6k, placing her 62nd overall in the field of 360 runners.
Shannon Galvin and Fatima Resendiz-Zavala (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) finished back-to-back with respective times of 26:55.28 and 26:56.28. Michelle Kraske (Horsham, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) (27:17.58) and Megan Ashford (Bloomsburg, Pa./Bloomsburg Area) (27:27.96) were roughly 90 behind them.
As a team, the women came in 13th out of the 31 squads. Susquehanna was the seventh-overall DIII school.
The teams have next weekend off from competition to prepare for the Oct. 29 conference championship meet, hosted by Moravian at Lehigh University.
