LEWISBURG, Pa. – It was a strong start to the 2014 season for the Susquehanna women's cross country squad at the Bison Open.
SU had eight women run sub-20 minute times on the three-mile course compared to just two women under 20 minutes at the same race one year ago. The top five runners averaged a time of 18:40 while last year's squad averaged 19:46 on the same course.
Junior Ashley West (East Hampton, N.Y./East Hampton) led the way for Susquehanna with an eighth-place finish after posting a personal-best time of 17:53. Freshman Kailyn Reilly (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) was the next Crusader to finish with a final time of 18:44 and sophomore Amy Kaschak (Lake Hopatcong, N.J./Jefferson Twp.) was just on her heels with a time of 18:47, a 50-second PR.
Megan Wright (Winfield, Pa./Lewisburg Area), Rachel Bachman (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) and Keirnan Dougherty (Dalton, Pa./Lackawanna Trail) swept the 36th through 38th spots with respective times of 18:55, 19:02 and 19:15, all personal-bests.
Emily LeBoffe (Morris, N.Y./Morris Central) recorded a career-best time of 19:38 and Seema Tailor (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) went 19:54. Allison Kriskewic (Kinnelon, N.J./Kinnelon) (21:40) and Victoria Doll (Selinsgrove, Pa./Selinsgrove Area) (22:01) were next across the finish line and were followed by Charis Gozzo (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) (23:07) and Julianna Falso (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) (23:50).
The Crusaders are off from competition next weekend before traveling to Penn State on Sept. 13.
